A Local Business continues to raise money and awareness to benefit the Travis Roy Foundation after a family member sustains a spinal cord injury.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 25, 2011) – Bill’s 5K in Newton Center was founded to build awareness and raise money to support the Travis Roy Foundation. In 2005, Bill’s Pizzeria in Newton Centre was hit hard when a member of their family was in an automobile accident which resulted in significant spinal cord trauma. More than 6 years later, Taso continues to get stronger and gain the freedoms he had before the accident. Continued breakthroughs in research will only help him continue on the path to independence and hopefully regain use of his legs.
The Travis Roy Foundation has awarded over one million dollars in grants for critical research to cure spinal cord injuries. Anyone that knows someone or has been injured themselves knows the confinement and significant challenges that come along with spinal cord injuries. A portion of the money raised by the Travis Roy Foundation goes toward individual grant funds to purchase adaptive equipment to help paraplegics and quadriplegics live their lives.
The Bill’s 5K is a terrific demonstration of a community coming together to support one of their own. The event which boasted 1,000 runners in 2010 is scheduled for Sunday, October 30 at 9am, and features a moderately challenging course through Newton Center. Runners are welcome to come in their Halloween finest to enjoy the great prizes, and a post race party with pizza and music that is second to none. Local sponsors such as First Common Bank and Marathon Physical Therapy, along with many others, have continued to contribute to the success of this is race that has become a staple on the Fall race calendar.
