On May 26th 2011, Scott Wolfe, a former Shepaug student, sister to current Shepaug student Vanessa Wolfe, got into a terrible motorcycle accident and is now a paraplegic. Vanessa is now working with the Travis Roy Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of people who suffer from spinal cord injuries. They were the only ones that helped Vanessa’s family in their time of need.
Vanessa reflects, “I thought it was an appropriate time when I could give back, and having a senior project to do whatever I wanted allowed me to make this possible.”
Spending at least 30 hours a week, Vanessa trucks through making clothes, designing her own patterns and asking for silent auction donations. Vanessa is on top of her game.
“When I was a sophomore I already had an idea of what I wanted my senior project to be,” says Vanessa.
Vanessa’s senior project involves sewing, knitting, and designing clothes. On April 5, 2013 Vanessa will present her fashion show “A Walk to Remember” where pieces will be designed by Emma Landegren and herself.
“A Walk to Remember represents the past and all the memories that were shared prior to the life changing accidents that happen every day. We are celebrating the lives that are still here with us today and the ones we’ve lost in tragic accidents,” said hopeful Vanessa Wolfe.
The goal is to raise money for the Travis Roy Foundation which is a charity partner with Positive Tracks, a youth-centric non-profit organization.
The amount of money Vanessa raises will be doubled by the generous foundation.
As stated on their website, “Positive Tracks youth challenge grants match fundraising efforts of ages 23 or under, encouraging kids to use the platform of athletics to help others and themselves, in the process.”
So far she has acquired donations from the Bank Street Theater, Salsa, Tivolli, The Gilded Lilly, George Washington Tavern, New Milford Sports Club, and Physical-Education.
The event not only promises a walk to remember, but also a night to remember.
