BURLINGTON, Vt. – An hour and a half before taking the field against Aberdeen on Thursday, the Vermont Lake Monsters were visited by a special guest. Travis Roy spoke to the team in its locker room for about ten minutes.

“It’s hard to go into a locker room like that and to see the youth and the energy and the dream still right in front of them and I remember it,” Roy said. “Some people get to live it and some people don’t. It comes to an end pretty quick. Hopefully, they’ll take a point or two from it.”

The 13th annual Travis Roy Foundation Wiffle Ball Tournament is set to begin Friday night. Over the last 12 years, the tournament has raised nearly $2.5 million dollars to benefit those affected by spinal cord injuries. Roy was paralyzed after an accident just eleven seconds into his first college hockey game as a freshman at Boston University nearly 20 years ago.
