MONKEES’ DAVY JONES TO PERFORM TODAY

AT TRAVIS ROY FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT

 

Orange, CT – Davy Jones, best known as a member of the popular 60’s TV band the Monkees, will perform at the 7th Annual Travis Roy Foundation Invitational Golf Tournament which is being held today at the Race Brook Country Club in Orange, CT. Jones will perform a select number of songs at the post-tournament dinner, which is scheduled to beginning at approximately 5:30 PM.

 

The Monkees were a phenomenal success, rating millions of viewers throughout the world and selling millions of records. Even as recently as 1986, The Monkees had ten albums in the Billboard charts. Jones has never strayed far from the public eye. He has made numerous guest appearances on television and on stage, both in the United States and England, and is the author of two books about his experience with the Monkees. He is a regular on the charity sports circuit and even ran the London Marathon for charity in a credible 3 hours and 40 minutes. Most recently, a Multiple Sclerosis research fund has been established in his name.

 

The Travis Roy Foundation Invitational Golf Tournament was launched in 1996 by Chris Drury of the Colorado Avalanche and Ted Drury, an 8-year NHL veteran. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $100,000 to benefit the Travis Roy Foundation, a nonprofit organization which distributes grants to financially assist survivors of spinal cord paralysis; the Foundation also supports research and education efforts relating to those injuries. In addition to Mr. Jones, other celebrity guests expected at the event include: NY Rangers defenseman Tom Poti, ESPN personality John Buccigross, 2002 US women’s hockey Silver Medallist Julie Chu, CT native Eric Boguniecki of the St. Louis Blues, and Mark Mowers of the Nashville Predators.

 

A sellout crowd of more than 250 golfers is scheduled to participate in the tournament. Approximately 400-450 guests are expected to attend a post-tournament dinner that, in addition to Mr. Jones’ performance, will include an auction featuring items donated by professional sports teams, athletes and local businesses. The silent and live auctions will include autographed items from the 2002 and 1980 US Olympic hockey teams; NBA stars Shaquille O’Neal and Jason Kidd; Canada’s 2002 Gold Medal hockey team and pairs skaters Jamie Salé and David Pelletier; NHL greats Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky; MLB legend Yogi Berra; two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner; and much more. The dinner and auction are scheduled to begin immediately following the golf tournament, at approximately 5:30 PM.
