Ability Beyond Disability's Annual Meeting On October 16, 2002, Ability Beyond Disability held its Annual Meeting and Report to the Community at the Hammond Museum in North Salem, NY. Michael Marcus, Chairman of the Ability Beyond Disability Board of Directors, gave the opening remarks; Buck Close, outgoing Chairman, presided over the induction of new Leadership Board members; and Tom Fanning, President and CEO of Ability Beyond Disability gave the President's Report. George Mulvaney, Stephen Tracy, and Charles Perrin, Vice-Chairman of the Board, gave individual committee reports. Travis Roy, author of Eleven Seconds, spoke to the capacity audience about finding a life while living with a disability. On October 20, 1995, when he crashed into the boards 11 seconds into his first collegiate hockey game, Travis' life changed forever. A new chapter began for him that day - learning to cope with being paralyzed from the neck down. To Travis, being as independent as he can be is a major goal. "Independence brings honor, pride, and worthiness," he told the audience. Travis also spoke of the love and support his family, friends and relatives have given him. Ability Beyond Disability was truly honored to have Travis Roy as our guest speaker.
