TRAVIS ROY FOUNDATION TO SPONSOR 2005 NESCI SCI RESEARCH UPDATE CONFERENCE
Event to be Held at Boston College June 16, 2005 The Northeast Spinal Cord Initiative (NESCI) will hold its second SCI Research Update Conference in Boston on June 16, 2005. The conference is made possible by a grant from the Travis Roy Foundation. Scheduled guests included the renowned Dr. Wise Young PhD MD, W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience, one of the country's foremost authorities on spinal cord injuries and research; Dr. Randall Betz, Chief of Staff of Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia; and Dr. Yang (Ted) D. Tang MD PhD, Director of Laboratories of SCI and Neural Stem Cells, Department of Neurosurgery, Harvard Medical School/Children’s Hospital Boston/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. The Northeast Spinal Cord Initiative is a Travis Roy Foundation supported initiative with the goal to establish a spinal cord injury center in the Boston area that would service spinal cord injured individuals from across the northeast United States. Fundraising is ongoing to build a state-of-the-art center with cutting edge programs specific to the ages of the patients that includes family immersion into care of their loved one, opportunities for research participation, and extension into the community with lifetime programs for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
