Travis Roy Foundation, MassCURE Record Video In Support Of Massachusetts Legislators, State Stem Cell Bill
Senate, House Pass Stem-Cell Research Legislation with Veto-Proof Vote
Boston, MA -- The Travis Roy Foundation and MassCure released a video on April 5, 2005 thanking the Massachusetts State Senators and Representatives for supporting a bill that encourages stem cell research in the Commonwealth.
On March 31, the Massachusetts State Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill to give scientists more freedom to conduct embryonic stem-cell research in the state. The measure, approved 35-2, would allow scientists to create cloned embryos and extract their stem cells for research into the treatment and cure of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, spinal-cord injuries and other conditions.
On April 4, the House passed its version of a bill which would give researchers more freedom to conduct embryonic stem-cell research. The bill passed with an overwhelming majority 117 to 37, and House leadership is confident the bill will have the votes necessary to override a potential veto by Governor Mitt Romney.
Lawmakers are now in the process of reconciling the differences between the House and Senate versions including the delegation of powers to a new state regulatory agency.
