VERMONT WIFFLE® BALL  TOURNAMENT

TO BENEFIT THE TRAVIS ROY FOUNDATION

Tournament Rules

  1. Each team will play three games, seven innings in length, unless halted due to time limit. If a game is still tied after eight innings, or at the time limit, the game will be settled by a home run derby. For the home run derby tiebreaker, each team will select three batters and each batter will get three swings from a pitcher on their team. Winner is team that hits more home runs, otherwise game is a tie.

  2. The top team in each Division will advance to a pair of semi-final games and the winners of these two games will advance to the Championship game.

  3. The tie breaker for first place in each Division, will be determined by:

  • Head-to-head results;

  • Run differential in each team’s three games;

  • Total home runs for three games;

  • Number of home runs given up for three games; and,

  • In the unlikely event there is still a tie, a coin toss

  1. The standard yellow WIFFLE ball bat with Travis Roy Foundation logo and white WIFFLE ball with holes on the top will be used. You can have up to nine fielders on defense including a catcher. No stealing, bunting, lead-off before hit, or advances on hit-by-pitch. Team has option to bat more than nine players.

  2. Pitchers are encouraged to throw a high percentage of strikes and refrain from attempting to strike batters out with fast balls. Umpire will call strikes and enforce pitch speed limit. Umpire will issue walks after six balls to a batter. No intentional walks.

  3. An out on the bases can be made just like in baseball. Additionally, a defensive player can get an out by hitting the runner with the ball, as long as the runner is not struck in the head.

Everyone is encouraged to have fun and display good sportsmanship.

Players need to refrain from wearing metal spikes.

Any protests, initiated with a $100 donation to the Travis Roy Foundation, will be handled on the field by the umpire who may consult with the Tournament Director if he/she desires.
